She didn't know what she was doing in Tokyo. She had booked herself a flight, packed her bags in an orderly fashion and organised her documents. She had carefully thought through the travel arrangements, just not the 'travel' component, you know, the 'life' part.

I mean, most people go on a trip for a purpose. On those little outgoing/incoming passenger cards you have to tick a box: leisure, business, education, visiting family...
She had no real reason for flying to Japan. So she ticked 'business'. If she didn't know what she was doing there, she intended on finding out and that could be hard work. Yes- definitely 'business'.

It's 2012. New Years Resolutions abound and aplenty. Peoples are trying to better themselves and their lives. The cynic in me would like to scoff at this notion and the dreamer in me would like to think that we should always be trying to better ourselves, not just because another year has past.

Anyways, I was reading a post on the brilliant, My New Roots about a 21 day cleanse for January. Sarah (from 'My New Roots') is a holistic nutritionist and a vegetarian chef and the real kicker is...her recipes are freekin' delish. For realisies. So I'm trying to undertake this small task of nourishing my body with some healthy eats.

Here are some of my tasty & healthy triumphs so far, thanks to the lovely Sarah:

Kale Chips

Gluten- free Spaghetti with roasted cauliflower, capsicum, parsely & olives

Raw beetroot, carrot, kale, sweet potato & pomegranate salad

Pumpkin & chickpea flour muffin

sassy & satiated Youka

my Sunday afternoon: tic tac toe, soy flat whites, floral head wreaths, rainbow coloured gelati and a polka band. nice work if you can get it, indeed.

O, the days of wild abandon:
of vanilla cigars & gin & juice
of honey dripping off your body at night
and ants in the sheets come the morning light

of hoisted up in the shower, twisted & sudsy sex
of breaking the soap dish; not seeing through the steam

of grilling summer peaches for lunch & letting them char & letting them burn
whilst roaming hands went where they needed to be

of having
                 and wanting
                                        and having again
                                                              and again

of the first precocious kiss you planted
of the first name I wrote (it was yours) in the snow
of our initials carved at Coney Island; witnessed by the freakshow & the sand & cotton candy & the boardwalk of our future, good intentions


of soon-to-come growing, great dividing distance and ever increasing melancholia
of jealous tongues of lying teeth of lips imparting desperate, vitriolic goodbyes

of wanting it back

this reminds of the time i spent at an Ashram. My heart wasnt't healing right when i kept tearing out the sutures. but the harmonium did soothe me some. waves of sound hitting me in the dewy morning grass amongst the praying, robed strangers

The Frockette: Not overly sweet, rich fudgy centre, cracked surface but soft crumb texture 7/10

"Raw Brownie"
I thought it would be remiss of me not to include a healthier option, so when I stumbled upon this recipe whilst perusing the uber healthy & excellent blog, My New Roots; I new I had to try it. Its only sweet ingredient is Medjool dates (which in other news, is also an uber delicious foodstuff) and it is bound together by cocoa and nuts!


The Frockette: a lil bitter, more of a fudge than a brownie, walnuts add an earthiness, a human error on our behalf...needs more Dates! (for sweetness) 5.5/10

The Frockette: ...they're f**king good. Salty. A decent crumb with a dense, chocolate centre. Cocoa is the way to go go 8.5/10

Just me & my new Tattly's. (Thanks, Frank Chimero. You the man.) This swissmiss enterprise is pretty darn playful & whimsical and has made me sweet on several designers. Design crushes for all!

What a beautiful and creative way to present a recipe! My mouth is still agape. agog. a googley eyed and what not. This is now on my list of 'must bake' items. *subtly drools on computer*
